The Hunter - Tapestry Wall Hanging
The Hunter - Tapestry Wall Hanging
The Hunter is a Gobelins tapestry from a series of eight entitled “La Nouvelle Tenture des Indes”, designed by Francois Desportes circa 1731, and based on an earlier set woven for Louis X1V in Paris. This panel is dated 1788 and signed by the Scottish master-weaver James Neilsen who introduced many innovations to the Gobelins factory. It hangs at Montacute House, Somerset, a National Trust property.
